Travel: Winnsboro, Texas

7:35:00 AM

I have talked and shared quite a bit about Brian's family lake/ranch house in East Texas. We usually try to visit them about 1-2 times a month. It truly is a great way to relax and recharge for the weekend. The little town they are located in is called Winnsboro. It is located halfway between Dallas and Texarkana, south of Interstate 30 (about a 2 hour drive from Dallas).  It is a cute little town with a thriving Main Street. They have a bunch of different shops and restaurants to keep you busy for the whole afternoon. Of course my favorite shop on Main Street is Clara Ida Frances. I am a little biased because my mother-in-law owns it, but in all fairness she has a wonderful selection of gifts, clothes, and home wares. Whenever we are in town I have to stop by because I want to see what new items she has. It is a shop you would find here in Dallas.

I wanted to share some of my favorite things to do while we are in town. Hope this helps you if you are planning a trip to East Texas or you are now thinking about visiting.

What to Do:

Shop & Eat on Main Street - There are plenty of shops and places to look at on Main Street. They were awarded the "Best Afternoon Stroll" and "Best Small Town Downtown" In 2008. It is a great little town to visit and enjoy. My favorite shops in town are of course Clara Ida Frances, Ladles to Linens and The Electric Elephant Boutique

Farmers Market- Happens every Saturday from 10 am - 1 pm. Rain or Shine. November 7th- March 26, 2016. The local farmers sell their homegrown fruits, veggies, eggs, ground beef, steaks, flowers and lots more! I always buy homemade jam every time we go.

Visit the Lake- There are several lakes in and around Winnsboro that you can visit. Whether you like to relax by the lake or fish there are many lakes to pick from in and near this little town.

Where to Stay:

The Hubble House Bed & Breakfast - I haven't personally stayed here, but have heard many great things about it. It was voted the Best Bed & Breakfast of the Upper East Side of Texas. It is located in town and very close to Main Street.

Air BnB- There are several different homes available for rental in and around Winnsboro. I would suggest this if you are coming with a bigger party or just want to be close to the lake.

Dining:

Liefie Li Vine- This is always a family favorite when we are in town. Usually one of the nights we are in Winnsboro we try to eat here. It is a unique little place severing South African food. I have never been to place like this in Dallas before, but we are always pleased when we visit. The atmosphere is inviting and you even get a free glass of wine. The salmon is one of my favorite dishes on the menu; it is so yummy.

Monk's Oven- This is a newer restaurant in town, but very good. They serve fresh made pizza that doesn't disappoint. For a small little town you would think this place belongs in a bigger city. Great atmosphere and the staff are always friendly. My favorite pizza is 'the Greek'. I would defiantly stop here for lunch or dinner.

Art & Expresso- For coffee or a sweet treat I highly recommend Art & Expresso. They have a wonderful coffee selection and they serve ice cream too! It is a cute little coffee shop, with an inviting staff.

Thank you for reading, xo.
